Map the Makers, Chengdu
British Council x Makerfun
Chengdu, China, 2018
In collaboration with British Council China Living Research, we organised this workshop at the Chiahuo Educational Makerspace in Chengdu to invite creative practitioners to join a spatial exploration of local maker and craft ecosystems. We worked with a variety of design research approaches, from tool postcards to memory tales, to examine spatial nodes across the city, with reference to making and craft cultures, including organisations, community spaces, events and the government. This enabled us to build an open data map, hosted on storymap.js and Open Street Map, which explored relationships between the many different actors who make up Chengdu’s creative cultures. Photos thanks to: British Council, Ingrid Murphy, Steve Coombs.
