Open Design & Hardware was hatched at a hackathon with Massimo Menichinelli, Christian Villum, and Primavera De Filippi in collaboration with the Open Knowledge Foundation, RMIT Europe, Aalto University Media Lab and Danish Design Centre. The network was active from 2012-2017. Its members worked together to understand how the emergent field of open design was being envisioned across disciplines, from product design to architecture, and digital production to open hardware. I designed the website and other aspects of the network’s digital identity on the web. The projects we accomplished together as a network included hosting the first-ever Open Design, Hardware and Fabrication track at the Open Knowledge Festival 2012 in Helsinki, releasing v0.1 of the new Open Design Definition on Github, launching a series of hands-on open design workshops across Europe, supporting the launch of the Public Domain Remix competition in France, and delivering keynotes about open design practices at LibreGraphics 2013 Madrid and FREE CITY 2012 Tallinn.
