UNBOUND Global غير مقيد was an interactive digital platform and community archive that I designed in 2014 in collaboration with the artist Rachel Gadsden and filmmaker Abigail Norris with funding from The Space. For this project, we asked marginalised communities across the Middle East and UK to share how they addressed the transformations of identity commonly associated with experiences of intercultural migration, disabilities and other life challenges, by illustrating these experiences through creative mediums. The digital platform was informed by user research with key participants of the project, to understand their diverse use cases. We explored in particular whether the anxieties that people sometimes experience when encountering unfamiliar places in their lives could be explored through collaborative co-creation, making ‘different ways of seeing’ visible. The platform launched in 2015, and continues through Rachel’s global work.
